Hello friends! Did you miss us? We missed you. I know it has been sometime since we last spoke. Seems like it was just last year haha. Yes, yes, I know that joke was cheesier than my nana’s four cheese baked ziti but it’s the truth. Anyway onward with this story *snaps fingers*! But first we have to put on our limited edition myculture time traveling caps! In the event you are without one, too bad! Use your imagination! Alright let’s set the date to August 11 2018. Tip the brim to activate, and away we go to the end of summer in the beautiful city of Miami Florida. As we travel through this time warp hole, I should mention this story is about the time Jake Downs and I shot Danny O’Connor’s freshly refreshed s13 before he took it to his maiden drift event.
Danny II: The refresh of Jazmin
At the end of this time warp sequence we find ourselves in a city of sexy bilingual people! The birthplace of 80’s vice cops shows! Really expensive six figure cars and yachts! And it snows all year round. We met up with Danny in Biscayne Blvd at Chopin plaza by the water. The same guy we featured about a year ago at our meet “Golden Squats”. Since then Danny took a year off to refresh or what some might say “Style UP!!” his onevia Jazmin. Yes, the name is not to be mistaken with the tea for it is “Jazmin” with a “Z” and make sure to drop that “e” baby. It wasn’t Danny who named the car that either. He found that name engraved on the radiator support, along with a happy face. He speculates it might have been the previous owners daughter’s name, it just stuck with him. The plan was to shoot this killer ride and attempt to do a little skate slash drift thingy. However that didn’t go as we thought, on top of that the weather was bipolar and started to rain on and off. We decided to pick up the shoot the following weekend and grabbed some slices of pizza instead.
Time travel is pretty neat huh? So the next Saturday we met up with Danny once again cracking stupid jokes about how “didn’t we meet last week”. Jake came along again but in addition we had another member of GutterClubUSA show up! It was Brandon in his black Sil80. I was like “Mama Mia!” we have a Silvia, Sil80 and Onevia all in one spot. We have more on Brandon, but that is for a different post so stay tune for that. While we got busy going from location to location I made sure to drive like a grandma and not spiritedly. For I feared Danny’s certified city of Miami street sweeper wouldn’t take to kindly to the harsh streets. To have a reflector or pothole make waste of his freshly painted Super Doof, Originlabs and 326 power aero.
To understand my gingerly awareness towards Danny, it comes from fact that he stripped the car to the bare shell and reassembled it to beauty queen we see before our eyes. Every component was re-installed and tuned by himself. With parts from brands like HKS, Parts by max, Sikky manufacturing and more. He even replacing both windshields before painting the interior and exterior including the body panels in his garage by himself. Danny is a true definition of Auto enthusiast, just look it up in the dictionary and you will see his face. But to be honest the reason I drove so slow was because, I didn’t want to dust Danny and show him up on this feature! I kid as he sports a similar setup, but probably tuned better than mines. Which in my opinion is the best engine configuration in the s-chassis. Yep a boring ass reliable Sr20det! Sr GANG GANG SQUAD SHIT! MOB!TURBO NOISES!
As the night came to a close, it was time to hit Danny with the hard questions lol.
shane: “What made you decide to share your cars progress and were there any doubts? or things that made you want to give up?”
Danny: “I wanted to document my progress at first, and Instagram was kind of the outlet where I could get feedback and such from it. But as I kept progressing it turned into me wanting to show people that they could do it too, not that my car is anything crazy, but they could build what they envision their car to look like. So once that clicked I pushed harder to make posts, share information, and even give tips to the people who asked. Doubts were everyday lol, seeing the car completely apart was definitely overwhelming. The amount of work it needed was harsh, but I took it day by day, and taught myself what to do. Money made me doubt things, as well as the amount of work lol.
shane: “as well what were the things that motivated you to complete it?”
Danny: “So for motivation, I used the haters fam, the people who thought I was taking too long, the people who thought going this in depth into a build was ludicrous. Nah jk, seeing other nice cars, and other people building their “dream” car motivated me. Knowing that if I took my time I’d finish.”
Well there you have it as we should get back to our present time. Oh yeah forgive my manners but you must be wondering who is Jake Downs? Many moons ago Jake and I were partners in the second renaissance of myculture. Sometime throughout the fun years we had a disagreement and we didn’t see eye to eye on continuing our partnership. I mean he is 6’1 and I’m 5’8 so… It was a dark time for myculture but eventually we grew up and became best buds like nothing happened. We never got back into bed of being partners, but being a part of this company seems like you are always part of it officially or not. So this man, I consider him a brother, was here to help out with the shoot and jazz. Also Danny and Jake, share a lot in common from their love of skateboarding, The Legend of Zelda, Gundams(pssh…) and drifting. But so do all the cool kids these days love anime, skateboarding and drifting. So they are just alright lol nothing special. They both are some of the coolest dudes I can call friends. Ps I love Marcross over Gundam so fight me!
