Can you guess who is constantly trying to find a new way to finagle his car into Side Mission Garage? This guy! This time around I had the brilliant idea of turning up the boost to about 15 psi or so, since the stock 6 psi kick while punching gears felt a tad lackluster; I guess getting used to the stock boost too soon might be clear indication of a speed addiction. So, you may assume adding that little extra sauce may introduce some problems, and you’d be right! I soon found my couplers kept blowing off my intercooler pipes, this would have to be remedied by bead welding the ends of the intercooler piping, whether or not the new boost level was staying.
This allowed the clamps to have a little extra to bite on when the increased surge of turbo goodness spooled through the pipes. Of course, this was a job for Mr. Estie Falero and his impressive welding skills! Nothing beats that magic tune effect from Side Mission Garage! We quickly slapped the intercooler piping back onto my Silvia, fashioned with the new beaded look, and took it out for some test runs up and down the garage’s main street. The results? Nothing short of satisfactory! No boost leaks and nothing popped off, the only question remained was should I keep the levels as high as they are, or reduce it?
The welding job completed, a new customer showed up with a virgin kouki S14. These days, seeing any s-chassis in as pristine a state as this vehicle is unicorn-esque! It was squeaky clean with only two small mods: s Silvia badge on the hood, and an aftermarket intake. With only 65,000 miles to its name, and the paint as clean as the day it was coated, it was clear the original owner took great care of this vehicular magnificence. A bit sad to know that the person who bought it, did so with the intent on turning it into a drift car. Well, as is the way it goes for these lovely stock cars these days. I’m just as guilty, probably even more guilty, having sent my S14 down the same modified hell-ride to something cool of my choosing.
