First of all, a HUGE thanks goes out to the fellas behind Miami Grand Drift! They’ve had more than their fill of bumpy roads, filled with crater sized pot holes, and even bigger bandits trying to stop them from putting on this awesome event; case in point, the Homestead Speedway Go-Kart track, the original venue for the event, pulling out at the last minute not days before the event! The Miami Grand Drift staff, standing firm with the promise of establishing their event, scrambled to find a new location. They reached out to the South Florida Fairgrounds, hoping to make use of an overflow parking area at the rear of the complex, making for an ideal location for this event.
Negotiations were quickly underway, solidifying the OK from the South Florida Fairgrounds to have the lot secured for the event, but it would seems these nippy gremlins weren’t through tearing apart their place mid-flight. The team was forced to announce a mandatory postponement of the event, and push the opening day to a later date. This announcement was a response to projected severe lightning storms to occur in the area, which, didn’t actually happen, but, safety is always paramount. Everything seemed to start fitting into place, but once again, the event was confronted with some shady moves by the Fairgrounds, indicating configuration issues with another automotive program that was going on at the same time. But, finally, the BS storm subsided, and the event day finally came to pass. So once again, much thanks to you, Miami Grand Drift, for hosting this amazing event!
