SUPER D MATSURI
First of all I have to get this off of my chest… The name “Super D” fam, I love this name for the literary translation and the the double entendre of a cape wearing eggplant emoji, if you know what I mean haha.
But really OH MY GAWD!!! The cool prince of drifting, King of blowing backies out! With so much style, it oozes out his sweatpants he is normally seen in. What look like some sort of throwback JNCO jeans. Naoki Nakamura, has blessed us with his first appearance on the west coast of USA.

SUPER
It’s a dusky early morning in Apple Valley, CA. Upon our arrival we started to take notice of how the greenery of the area had turned into arid desert. Being from the east coast and never had the chance to see anything sandier than the beautiful beaches of South Florida, It was awesome to take in the barren sights.
With the contact drift high from the final round of Formula Drift still lingering within our lungs, we were pumped to see our America drift heroes come get “rekt” by Nakamura. Grange Motor Circuit would be the place where he would bury the bodies..more like doors of these fine drift mobiles. It was a pack house with drift teams from all over the nation. Such patrons like Tandem of Die, Villains, Matt Powers, Forrest Wang, a whole gang of Formula Drift competitors, much more and of course Team Animal Style.

The fun of this event was everywhere, with a bunch of dusty yet close tandems, and all the cars making this track looking like a hot wheels desert playset. We notice a common sight brewing, a certain zestino tyres mark on the passenger side doors. Yep! Naoki was doing what he does best, and that was drifting with the most excitement the could. The crowd got hype as he threw reverse entries with the best in biz, tapping on their door trying to push them out of his way. To me this was the most pivotal part of the event. And that point boils down to his minimal car setup, well just the right amount of this and the right amount of that. A very modest power 300 plus horses sr20det bottom mount turbo, a plethora of suspension bits and a heck of an amazing driver mod. He was keeping up drifters with 3 times the power. Sure the reality of the his car setup relies on a short track. But with the tandems constantly being so close as they were, it begs to think that maybe this formula is just fun. I hope we can learn something from this adventure with Nakamura. Especially with a lot of people I’ve seen just trying to build a car that is too much badass only to end up not having as much fun with their setup. That maybe a modest drift car build could be the happy medium most people are looking for but have not found.
“WOAH! Wait, was that Herts hood!!?” As it would last been seen doing a triple aerial somersault as he charged into the first corner.

This event was one for the history books in americana drifting. Thanks to Team Animal Style, Wolfreign Motors and many others who were the major players in making this event a possibility.
