This is one of those situations where you’re already off to a bad start before the day even began. This year’s USDCtournament was held at Sun Life Stadium, which is relatively close to the Side Mission Garage, so, rather than transport it, we decided to drive Estie Falero‘s drift car from the garage to the event itself. Well, as it happened, something went wrong with an electrical component in the car, preventing it from gaining power; we didn’t make it far when it came time to have it towed back to the shop. We tried everything, but nothing availed, and we ultimately threw in the towel, and made our way to the event vehicleless. I was made booth-watcher which kept me locked for the majority of the event; having Jake Downs, Johnny Zhang, and Luis Ochoa all on media would have been too much, so no love lost.

Once the booth was set up and the merch orderly presented, the first wave of drivers started coming in. Kevin Phillips Street Wise Drift Pro-Am 350Z, parking adjacent to our booth, and amazingly increasing our appeal to venue goers! Roughly an hour into the show, I get word from Tate Tate Design that he and some customers were in the area, and wanted to see if they could make an appearance at the show. Being good with Chris Jackson, the mind behindUSDC, I asked if I could use my one-time-favor card to get Tate in. Chris agreed, and Tate, along with his friends rolled up onto the scene with freshly wrapped chrome neon green and electric blue Nissan GTRs: instant show stoppers! Never have you seen so many necks strain to get a taste of these vehicles! The masses surrounding these two GTRs were like flies to a light in the greasiest Chinese kitchen.

As far as the drifting portion of the event was concerned, JJ Naico was in the solo class this time because of the ruled “caged drivers only” while tandeming. That of course didn’t stop him from taking home 5th! Our boy Alec McEuen placed 4th in the Tandem Class, he was matched against some gnarly V8 powered cars, but his NA stock motor held its own
These boys played hard and worked even harder for their positions!
